SWMC member Matthew Dix is organising an introduction to bouldering weekend in the Peak District. The information for this meet, to be held on 23rd-24th April,  is below:

I have done quite a bit of bouldering around the UK and mainland Europe, so I would to love to share my knowledge of areas, techniques and tips I have collected over the years.

I have decided to do this meet in the Peak District. The reason behind this is that there is not much around the South Wales area for
bouldering beginners. The Peak District has a lot of bouldering around the lower grades and is of good quality (literally thousands). The area
is beautiful, has great climbing history and great classic and “world class” lines.

The weekend will go something like this:

Saturday

We will go through what gear there is available to us and go through how to use it etc.. Crag etiquette, e.g. acceptable behaviour, (dos and
don’ts) at the crag. Reading problems e.g., on-sighting, flashing and red pointing problems, footwork, technique, safety and more. (We will go through a lot of these while we climb)

Sunday

Go out and climb loads !

This weekend would benefit those who are interested into getting into bouldering and anyone who would be interested in improving their
climbing. Bouldering is great on its own or even as a training tool to improve other types of climbing.

The bunkhouse I’m thinking of booking has a great pub up the road with good food and ales. But if eating out is not for you the bunk house has good cooking facilities.

If anyone is interested in going up in the evening on Friday 22nd to get an early start, which I will most probably do, just let me know and we
can sort it out.

If you are interested, you can post below or contact me via my email [email protected]

(I will be away for the 14th – 21st of March but I will try my best to get back in touch)

Let me know asap and forward a payment to me so I can book the bunk house. (The bunk house is £10 a night).

Anyone who would like to help out is more than welcome !

Looking forward to it!
