Style Concerns
Have put up the routes, but given how we're referring to other routes in italics e.g:
Follow a thinner diagonal crack right of Central Flake, to join Central Crack at 5m.
is there a preference as to the style to use for areas of a crag? e.g Far South Slab and Great Slab in:
To the east of Far South Slab and west of a prominent inlet leading to the base of the Great Slab, is a yellow stained slab about 20m high. It is bounded on its west (left) side by a diagonal chimney and a loose corner. --Tom Dudley 00:52, 1 August 2010 (BST)
- If an area is a section of a crag, then I mark it up as so: [[Page_name#Section_Name|Section Name]]. It will appear as a link.
- If, for example, you refer to Caswell Bay on the Caswell Bay page then mark it up as [[Caswell Bay]]. It will appear bold.
- Two reasons to do it these ways:
- Greatly increases readability
- If you copy and paste the markup to a different page the link works too
- Take a look at some the markup at the top of the Three Cliffs page.
- Mark up route names in italic. Otherwise it can all become almost unreadable. --Tim Hoddy 01:30, 1 August 2010 (BST)
- Just been experimenting with a bit of markup. You can see on the article-page some of the things that I attempted to describe above.
- I'm wondering whether to embolden those links which to an anchor in the same page. I suspect it would increase readability. What do you think? --Tim Hoddy 10:43, 1 August 2010 (BST)
Try it out Tim. I still haven't worked out section link but will try to incorporate where i find an appropriate spot for it in Crymlyn Quarries. I would like the routes to look similar though even in mark up .
see
- route name - grade
Route description. 4m.
- route name2 - grade
Route description2. 4m.
This copes with adding new routes and re-numbering them all - looks good too.

Adding ascentionist info is made easier too.
It would be nice if there were more wiki markup shortcut buttons at the top of the editing window? --Alan rosier 10:53, 1 August 2010 (BST)
Two things I don't like about this:
1) The route length and grade in bold. I think it is easier to read if only the route name is in bold... i.e.
- West Corner - 4m, E1,5b
Route description.
- Nasty Crack - 5m, VDiff
Route description2.
2) The use of the <br> tags. This can cause us serious problems if we are later to edit the CSS for making bespoke, custom layouts for pages. For this reason we should, as far as possible, stick to wiki markup rather than html.
- West Corner - 4m, E1,5b
- To the right of Direct is an area of honeycombed rock at the base of the slab. Climb the left side of these combs to gain the left end of a horizontal crack. Finish direct.
- Nasty Crack - 5m, VDiff
- Start below the Great Slab at a narrow slab leading up to an earthy gully on its left. Climb the narrow slab to its top, then traverse right on obvious pockets to the left edge of the central slab. Follow the edge to the top. This point can also be reached by traversing in from Nat Not at a harder grade.
We should be able to edit the CSS to remove the extra indentation. --Tim Hoddy 11:50, 1 August 2010 (BST)
