Wednesday Night Climbing – 12th July
A group of Westies headed to one of the newly developed crags, Calcite Bay, at Rhossili, for some sport climbing action. It was rather hot to begin with, so we warmed up on some of the easier climbs, and wondered how Mike Davies remained cool despite wearing jeans. The venue seemed quite fresh, with plenty of loose rock and soil to contend with. The right hand wall was more solid but Penny took a fall on Drill Your Own (6b) after a foothold came off. Mike S managed to stay on Calcite Crack’n Up (6a+) after grabbing a loose hold. He attempted a bit of route cleaning but gave up after deciding he’d be there all evening. In all a fun evening’s climbing, with everyone leading between 4 and 6 routes each from grades 4b to 6b. A place with a fantastic view, and somewhere that should hopefully improve over time, with more traffic.
We had a wonderfully sunny trip with some great climbing on sea cliffs and some good company to match.
There are no meets currently planned in the next month, remember that you can contribute a meet to the list.
