SWMC Newsletter – Wednesday 31st May

The weather is currently looking good for climbing on Wednesday.

East
On a hot and humid evening 7 members turned up to climb at Tirpentwys. Peter turned up with his bike, as he hadn’t used it in a year, which soon resulted in a short race. Curon quick off the mark sprinted off with an acceleration that Peter initially thought he wouldn’t be able to beat on his bike. The acceleration only lasted a short distance, and with a smooth and steady speed, Peter soon overtook, and Curon’s run looked rather ridiculous according to those left behind. Upon arrival at the crag two west country visitors were already climbing, although the eagled eyed noticed that they had a new static rope, which turned out to have been miss-sold to them, thankfully they had a dynamic rope available to them. It ended up being a relaxing evening with the warmth, and not much climbing occurred. As usual Curon attempted to warm up on a 6a, and failed, before moving over to an over rated 6b where there was more success. Philippa also attempted the 6b, but didn’t like the last bit on lead, so Curon redid the climb and left a top rope for the rest of the club.
We’re heading to Navigation Quarry this week, where we’ll be meeting from about 6pm. Information on the crag and routes can be found on the wiki: https://swmc.org.uk/wiki/Navigation_Quarry_-_Cilfynydd
If you’re attending and are offering, or require lift sharing, please feel free to use the email list or post on the Bulletin Board
West
As usual; meet at Mike Davies Leisure in Upper Killay at 5.30pm.
New Leaders’ Weekend
Report by Matthew Dix:

I would like to thank Everyone who came along to this weekend. I must say, I messed up a bit with booking the weather. Although we had some iffy weather, we definitely made the most of the dry spells on the slate and had a glorious day out on Holyhead mountain.

A Big well done to all the new leaders, who are definitely going in the right direction, thanks to all of our top guns who came along.
