The weather has continued to be reasonably good and is currently forecasted to be good for both Wednesday night and the new Members’ Day on Saturday at Morlais Quarries.
Wednesday Night Climbing – 19th April
East
Despite the wind, 10 members ventured to Trebanog for the first Wednesday night climbing of the season, where everyone got a few routes in before dusk. There were three attempts at leading Mick’s Little Viper, two clean on-sights, but the other was a spectacular failure, although it’s claimed it was only a demonstration of a lead fall. This week we’ll be heading to Witches Point, which is a short walk across the beach (low tide is at 18:12) from the Dunraven Bay car park at Sutherndown. Information on the crag (including vague directions) and routes can be found on the wiki: https://swmc.org.uk/wiki/Witches_Point – we will probably be in the Witches Cave area, and we usually arrive from about 17:45.
West
Twelve hardy Westies braved the elements and visited Gravesend on a cold and blustery evening last week. Most of the activity centred on the easier routes where, to keep the blood flowing, continued motion was the order of the day. Jamie Darwinkel opted for some more serious stuff, climbing Vertical Smile while Gwyn, its creator in 1981, provided commentary and liaison between leader and second, over the wind. A pint in the warmth of The Joiners afterwards was most welcome. Let’s hope we’ll be able to report on warmer activities in the coming months as we will be meeting at Mike Davies Leisure in Upper Kilay at 5.30pm.
New Members’ Day at Morlais – 22nd April
