There is a lecture by Alex Honnold on 27 May up in the Beacon Climbing Centre in Caernarfon.

It’s £10 if you quote your BMC number , starts at 7.30…it’s about a 20min drive from the hut.

It’s a seriously interesting way to start our weekend…I’m going to buy a ticket today as it will only take approx 2 hrs out of our Fri evening…this chap is a world class , cutting edge rock God so I’m sure he’d really want to meet us all as we are ..SWMC ok !!! :supz:

Weekend Kit Check:

For those who have never been to the hut..bring a sleeping bag , dish towel , towel , toothbrush etc.
You don’t need to bring any cooking kit..just anything you want to cook.

Basic climbing kit ( harness , stickies , lid ), outdoor rack if you have one (nuts , nut key etc ,etc )

IDEALLY YOU’LL WANT A BOA SCREWGATE KRAB (GOOGLE IT) PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 3 SCREWGATE KRABS
PLUS YOUR BELAY DEVICE AND SCREWGATE CRAB. BRING ANY SLINGS THAT YOU HAVE. Don’t stress or panic about any kit you don’t have…we’ll deal with that safely before you step off the ground….O00ps Bring a couple of prusik loops if you have them (google it)… or buy a couple of mts of 6mm chord (£2) and we’ll get you to make your own…google a double fisherman’s knot …very simple and very important. If you want to have a jump start on the rest of the group..practise a clove hitch..again its very simple but invaluable….(if you can do it with one hand..either hand..with the krabs facing either way…you’ll be top of the class AND you’ll be the only person in the club that can actually do it..(go on…you know you want to)…We may even run a little Sat night competition where we watch all of the topguns failing miserably to do this after half a bottle of red wine …..THERE WILL BE A PRIZE FOR ANYONE WHO CAN DO IT..

I’m up North Wales at Bangor Uni on Thur so I may stay in the hut Thur but I’ll certainly be around very early Fri…(I may even go throw a few shapes with Alex Honnold if he’s not too scccccared scoobie yikksers )…Sooo , I should be around the hut for the early birds arriving on Fri …If anyone wants a chat about kit/capabilities/level of risk etc …just give me a bell or drop me a txt on 07715366335 , cheers joe …ps Paul Griffiths says that he’s in charge of the weather for the weekend and he’s already sorted it all out .(but bring a pair of walking boots and waterproofs in case we have a rainy rest day on the hill)

Cheers Joe (email: [email protected])
