MediaWiki talk:Sidebar
Added the Tides and Weather links to the sidebar. I'm also going to remove those links from the "Main Page" as that page is cluttered and needs to be redesigned. I propose adding a "News Section" in a table. The current news section (at the bottom of the page) is pretty awful looking. (Try looking at it with different browsers and at different resolutions.
Take a look at Newpage. It looks simpler and the news items aren't all over the place as they are at different resolutions. Still... Newpage isn't a perfect design. (At the very least, he photo and table sizes could be increased).
The main advantages pf the Newpage layout are:
- It includes information which would achieve a higher rank in Google's search engine for all relevant queries.
- By using a frame for the layout of the news, it gives much greater control over how it is displayed. (It would be more prominent if it were at the top of the page - folks would check back more often if were placed so).

Hi Tim, I like the new sidebar layout, more links and better presented. The new page looks ok too, I just think that the links should be at the top for speed (no need to scroll down to them which gets annoying). Also like what you are doing with the Gower page - can't confirm how correct it is, but looks good. --Alan rosier 17:03, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Agree with the links being at the top. I think I'll remove the "rationale" bit and rep[lace with links. Also, I'm having thoughts about the Gower page. I'm experimenting with shaded areas on Google Maps on the Map test page. Hope to have a Gower map and its shaded areas as links to crag areas. --Tim Hoddy 17:42, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Great idea. Looked at this page, shaded area looks very geometric against the organic shapes of the coastline. Going back to basics - what about something like the SWMC guidebook map (at the start of the book) of gower. These hollow boxes look OK..ish--Alan rosier 20:06, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yep... that was the idea. I'd replace the Russian Zawn picture with a Gower map with shaded areas. --Tim Hoddy 20:52, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
