History of the Club
The South Wales Mountaineering Club was established in 1960 and aims to encourage interest in mountaineering in all its forms and to bring together like minded people interested in mountaineering. The club’s activities range from mountaineering and rock climbing to scrambling and hill walking, catering for all level of experience including total beginners.
With approximately 110 members, we have branches in Cardiff and Swansea who meet regularly to climb indoors and out.
The club organises a number of meets to climbing areas throughout Britain and occasionally further afield. There are also a number of specialist introductory meets organised for those with little or no experience.
Membership is open to anyone aged 18 or over (ages 7 – 17 please visit our junior membership and anyone aged 18 or over please visit our membership page). We are affiliated to the BMC.
The club operates regular weekly meets, climbing at local crags during the summer and indoor climbing centres during the winter, and arranges a number of trips further afield throughout the year. Please see the weekly meets and upcoming meets pages for further details.
