Wednesday Night Climbing – 6th September
West Meet
The weather is currently expected to be reasonable, and there will be a meeting at Mike Davies Leisure at 5:30pm.
East Meet
The South Wales BMC Area Meeting is being held at Boulders from 7:30pm. A number of members intend to get there early and get a number of climbs in beforehand.
Last week we had a good turnout at Box Bay, although one member has vowed never to allow others to lead climb “Valley Girls” with his gear again, as there is now a trend of dropping screw-gates down a deep crack…
August Bank Holiday at the club Hut
Preceded by a spate of people attempting to amputate index fingers with Stanley knives and tumble dryers, the August trip to North Wales was still a success. With no particular plans, activities on the first day ranged from E1 multipitches on Clogwyn Du’r Arddu to a hill walk in the Glyderau avoiding the crowds. Curon joined the finger injury action at Cloggy by giving himself rope burn, off-route on an E3. Amazingly for Snowdonia the weather remained warm, and the midges held off enough, to have the planned barbecue in the newly cleared exterior of the hut.
On the Sunday, Curon managed to stay on-route, and there was a successful group ascent of Amphitheatre Buttress at Craig Yr Ysfa. Elsewhere there was plenty of slate action at the Sidings in Dinorwig, with Piotrek doing well on his first sport leads. The discovery that there was gritstone in Wales sparked some interest. After a traditional breakfast in Pete’s Eats, a small group managed to find some, in an unlikely setting at Carreg yr Ogof, overlooking Trawsfynydd nuclear power station. “Better than it looks” was the verdict, enough to tempt Gethin despite his recently sutured finger.

Thanks to Matt Dix for organising the weekend, the Lincoln Hut for lending us their petrol strimmer for the exterior tidy-up, and Penny & Mike D for filling their car with hut cleaning supplies.
