Jerry Gore is fundraising to help diabetic children in Nepal, his challenge is to do the three hardest climbs in the Alps. Here is what Jerry has to say about the challenge:
“My name is Jerry Gore and I am a 51 year old insulin-dependent diabetic dad.” Together with some of Britain’s best climbers – Twid Turner, Gaz Parry, and Giles Cornah – I am going to attempt three of the Alps’ toughest routes this August and I want you to support me by donating to a cause I am 100% committed to. Since my diagnosis in 2001 as a Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic I now need up to 8 insulin injections and 6 blood sugar tests daily just to live. I have to weigh all my carbohydrates, and have experienced huge mood swings and severe night time hypos that have reduced all of my family to tears on many occasions. Plus I need many expensive pieces of diabetic equipment totalling €6,000. Imagine what it is like for a young diabetic living in a Third World Country where just day to day survival is difficult?”
