We are fast approaching the club’s annual First Lead weekend.
Trad climbing is all about placing your own natural protection unlike sport climbing which relies upon insitu bolts, and hangers. The weekend is aimed at first time and beginner Trad leaders.
The intended itinary for the meet is as follows:
Friday 11th (Evening) – Meet at the club hut in North Wales, a relaxed evening introducing everyone and some chatting about some of the basics of trad climbing.
Saturday 12th – AM – Early start at Tryfan Bach, a great easy venue at which to learn the basics of gear placement and belays; a number of experinced climbers will be along from the club to help give guidance both during your lead and at the top in setting up your belays.
Saturday 12th – PM & Sunday – We head off to some of the outlying crags to put those new found trad skills into practice, the plan being to partner experienced climbers with new leaders to continue passing on that knowledge throughout these two days.
The weekend is open to all SWMC members, although it would be preferable if those attending had some experience of outdoor climbing (seconding or leading); we will of course try to accommodate everyones abilities and aspirations however.
If you would like to attend the meet (either as a beginner or an experienced leader), please join the discussion on the bulletin board.
This event is not a "Training Course" but an opportunity to undertake your first leads in the security and company of experienced club members.
